General Overview of Middle School ELA and Social Studies

Grades 7 and 8 ELA

• One novel study per term

• Weekly spelling and grammar assignments

• Journal Writing

• Debates

• Inquiry into Expository Writing

Grade 7 Social Studies (topics)

• Describing the Planet (earth)

• Well Being Around the World

• Different Societies and Ways of Life

• The Ecological Effects of Modern Societies

Grade 8 Social Studies (topics)

• Understanding Societies of the Past – The Early Peoples

• The Early Society of Ancient Egypt

• The Ancient Societies of Greece and Rome

• The Transition to the Modern World (500 AD to 1400 AD)

• Shaping the Modern World (1400 AD to 1850 AD)

Grade 7 Religion

Along with observing, studying and discussing the significant religious times of year, such as Advent and Lent, we will be following the We Live Our Faith program by Sadlier, and focusing on topics such as:

• Who is God and who is Jesus?

• How is Jesus alive in the church today?

• How does the church live as the Body of Christ?

Grade 7 Health

Our focus throughout the year will be on Wellness, Relationships, Life Learning, and making good choices relating to our personal health.
